Walled Gardens
A pathway from past to present
Peacefully tucked away to the corner of the main castle lies a place with an ironically colourful history. The walled gardens of Lough Rynn started as a focal point of the estate and quickly became a talking point of all those who visited the castle. Over the years that followed however, it fell into disrepair, became massively overgrown and eventually grew to the point where it became hard to even see. When Lough Rynn Castle was purchased, with the goal to restore it to its former glory, restoring the beauty of its once famous gardens became a project with equal importance.
Not only has the walled garden once again regained its reputation as one of the most stunning sights on the estate, its fruits, vegetable and herbs have become an important player in the food we produce in our award-winning kitchen. Everything grown on the first tier, of what we call the ‘working garden’, is brought into the chefs to turn into the mouth-watering dishes our guests enjoy in the Sandstone Restaurant and the delicious jams they enjoy at breakfast.
But more than anything, the newly restored walled oasis gives its name to Lough Rynn Castle Estate & Gardens has become a beacon of romance. Our walled gardens are a hugely popular spot where many the couple have come to get engaged, only to return later to seal the deal with a wedding to remember. It truly is unmatched for those romantic wedding pictures.
